Beginning as a broad collective with loosely-defined membership, its core intiates – Camerin Kelly, Casey Barclay (Moab), and Thomas Mahoney – perpetually assembled around the Echo Park Lodge, a residence in an old neighborhood north of downtown LA. The home and its inhabitants quickly became notorious for psychedelic gatherings, occult rituals, hauntings, and their infamous “BLACK LODGE” experimental recording sessions in which anyone was invited to take part, as long as they brought an instrument.
In late 2008, Kelly raised the bar and recorded demos of songs written in prior years and presented them to Mahoney, whom he asked to join under the new name LANTVRN. The fledgling band started performing at clubs and gatherings throughout Los Angeles and southern California. “Dangerous,” a song recorded in a haunted house on the coast of Northern California with ex-drummer Michael Hamm, became LANTVRN’s calling card, showcasing its ethereal mixture of 60s-influenced rock with heavy waves of shoegaze.
Kelly says, “LANTVRN is a narrative, an experiment, and a musical documentation of the lives in which we live and the times that stand between us and infinity. This is a bleak world at times, but this is nothing new to us. This is not 1968 and we won’t ever pretend that is. This is psychedelia in a very confused and lonesome era, LANTVRN is a postcard from beyond your worst dreams, yet it is pure, the message is only that we should shine on each other before it’s too late. But we cannot fear the end; through our art we are embracing the beyond, its beauty, its light, but also it’s all-destructive power. LANTVRN is the challenger spacecraft of the musical world, our music lifts you off the planet with grace and atmospheric melody, but right beyond that melody lies annihilation, and a really heavy riff. We are performing a ritual, and hopefully, for our audience, a séance.”
Playing with likes of Dead Meadow, Black Math Horseman, Thrones, The Shine Brothers, Panthere, The Dolly Rocker Movement, Moab, True Widow, Dios, Crooked Cowboy and The Black Apples, LANTVRN is working hard at hitting the road and spreading it’s light across the United States and Europe.
LANTVRN has currently finished production on their debut EP, Produced by Bron Tieman (Crooked Cowboy).
